Google Warns Against Dependence on Its AI Model, Bard, as it Opens for Limited Testing in the US and UK
Google has officially launched the Bard experiment in the United States and the United Kingdom, which represents its direct response to the ChatGPT robot. It is not new to us the fact that Google is racing against time and trying hard to catch up with the artificial intelligence race, which has raised criticisms from Google employees themselves and made the company in a state of chaos. We witness, dear reader, the shaking of the empire of the search giant and its exposure to the threat from Bing, which broke the barrier of 100 million active users daily for the first time in history.
Google announced the availability of Bard for testing officially through a blog post published by two project leaders, Cissy Hsiao and Ellie Powers, in which they explained that this is an early experiment aimed at "satisfying users' curiosity" in addition to increasing their productivity using artificial intelligence.
Google's fear of Bard is clear, as in addition to the blog that confirmed that this is just an initial experiment, the application interface is filled with warnings that absolve the company of any incorrect or inappropriate responses and that artificial intelligence does not represent Google's own views or affiliation.
Similarly to the ChatGPT robot, Bard comes with an interface that allows you to chat with the artificial intelligence provided by Google. The first thing that those who tried the application noticed is that it is clearly faster, but this may be due to the almost negligible pressure on the website's servers.
As for Bard's accuracy in answering questions correctly, it was not completely accurate, even though it is connected to Google search results. It can be easily deceived to give the wrong answer. When asked about the maximum capacity of a particular model of dishwasher, his response consisted of three answers, all of which were wrong.
Therefore, until now, it cannot be said that Bard will replace Google's search engine, which is actually what Google aims for, as it puts a "Google it" button at the end of each answer to redirect your question to the search engine. How does Bard compare to ChatGPT?
Beside the clear difference in speed that we talked about, there are no significant differences between the two systems. Bard comes to be very similar to its competitor in terms of capabilities. The testers were also able to generate code through it, which Bing's engine cannot do. It was also noticed that Bard lacks the citations that connect its answers to the sources from which it collected them. However, according to Google's statements, the absence of those citations means that Bard's answer is generated entirely from Bard's ideas, and not copied verbatim from sources on the internet. If it were to do so, the citations would be used to clarify that.
Reports also indicate that Bard is very reserved in its answers, unlike ChatGPT, which stirred controversy with its sensitive responses even after being integrated into Bing. It appears that Google is indeed trying to rein in its artificial intelligence to avoid any legal or ethical issues.
Google's strategy for catching up to artificial intelligence shows the critical position the company is in due to its fierce competitor. Although Google had the advantage of leading the scene, the quiet fire that Google was cooking on caused it to lose attention. Google is now trying to show us that it is the first owner of artificial intelligence technologies and, at the same time, does not want to sacrifice its search engine and kill it with its own hands.
It is not a science fiction to imagine Google's disappearance and failure, and that the future of artificial intelligence is in someone else's hands, and that Google's search engine becomes a thing of the past!
Currently, Google exclusively allows the experience of Bard, unfortunately, we have not been able to try it in Arab Hardware yet, as it is limited to a selected group of residents in America and Britain. But if you reside there, you can enter this link to reserve your spot in the waiting queue.
It is worth mentioning that Google will provide early access to Bard for Google Pixel users residing in the United States.
