If there's one thing that may be preventing NFTs from really taking off and becoming ultra-popular right now, it might be that these digital assets aren't being frankly supported by companies in the tech, be it the giants or the more reasonably sized companies. But all this could change very soon. Initiatives are multiplying. Today, Reddit confirms testing the ability to display NFTs in profile pictures.

In a statement to TechCrunch, Reddit spokesperson Tim Rathschmidt said, “We are always exploring ways to provide more value to our users and communities on Reddit. We are currently testing the ability to use NFTs as a profile picture (avatar) and to verify ownership. This is a small internal test, no decision has been made on a possible expansion or rollout of this feature.”
A small-scale internal test for the moment
And if all of this sounds familiar, that's precisely because it is. Indeed, Twitter recently announced that users subscribed to the Twitter Blue service can now use their NFTs in their profile pictures. We also recently learned that Facebook and Instagram were exploring a similar use of NFTs on their platforms.
Although NFTs are indeed already very popular, the fact that they are supported, if only for displaying images in a profile, on such well-known platforms as Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, and consort would greatly bring the concept and make it accepted by those who do not yet know all this, or who remain skeptical about these technologies. Will this initiative be sufficient, however? Hard to say.
