Tesla's first major upgrade to Model S in 9 years

January 28 Tesla today announced the first major redesign of the Model S electric car launched in 2012. The new model will be shipped in March, with a new look, simplified interior, and a more powerful option. The power system allows the car to travel at least 520 miles (approximately 836 kilometers), from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds. Tesla said that this makes it "the fastest production car ever to accelerate."

Tesla's Model X is also undergoing interior updates, and there will be a version equipped with the new power system, but the update content of this SUV is not that big.

The exterior of the new Model S has some minor updates, including a standard large glass roof, but the biggest visual change is the interior. Tesla has cut off the vertical touch screen and switched to a touch screen more like Model 3 and Model Y , but with a much narrower frame (like we saw on the Cybertruck prototype). In addition, there is a handleless U-shaped butterfly steering wheel, just like on the forthcoming second-generation Roadster, with a screen at the back for rear-seat passengers. Unlike Model 3 and Model Y, the new Model S still has a screen behind the steering wheel.

The new Model S starts at US$79,990 (approximately RMB 518,511), which is a "long-endurance" dual-motor version that can obtain 412 miles (approximately 663 kilometers) of cruising range. Or you can spend 119,000 US dollars (approximately 771,381 yuan) to buy a model equipped with a new and more powerful "Plaid" power system, with a cruising range of 390 miles (approximately 627 kilometers) and 0 to 60 mph acceleration time Under 2 seconds, the 520-mile (approximately 836 kilometers) "Plaid+" version starts at USD 139,000 (approximately RMB 90,1025).

The Plaid and Plaid Plus versions have a top speed of 200 mph (approximately 321 km/h), while the Long Range has a top speed of 155 mph (approximately 249 km/h). Tesla said that due to the new power system and the new heat pump developed for the Model Y, the Plaid version should perform quarter-mile speed measurements five times as many as the previous Model S sedan.

IT Home understands that as for the new Model X, it retains the same design, but uses a new horizontal instrument panel screen, butterfly steering wheel and rear passenger screen. The long-range dual-motor version of the new Model X starts at $89,990 (approximately RMB 583,333), has a range of 360 miles (approximately 579 kilometers), a top speed of 155 miles per hour, and a 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds. Tesla also offers a version equipped with the Plaid power system, which is priced at $119,000, has a range of 340 miles (about 547 kilometers), a top speed of 163 miles per hour, and a speed of 60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds.
